I have completed the solutions to the 2022 HSC Mathematics Standard 2 exam.

Thoughts on this year’s exam (link to the solutions is at the bottom of the post):
I think the multiple choice overall well balanced, with even the hard questions quite doable if you know the content well enough.
I felt about the same on Section II extended response questions. The test progressed well from easy to medium to hard, and there were plenty of opportunities for students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the various topics.
Of course the questions nearing the end are more on the challenging side. There was a bearings question near the end of the middle of the test (Question 30) that was potentially tricky for many students given the number of different angles, even though scaffolding was provided.
I’d predict that many students would have found 36 (b) on reducing balance loans tricky, as well as question 37 on the normal distribution. Now I know many students are scared of ratios, so may have been intimidated by Question 38, but it was pretty easy if you know what to do!
