I have completed my own worked solutions to the 2024 HSC Mathematics Standard 2 exam.
Thoughts on this year’s exam (link to the solutions is at the bottom of the post):
I thought this year’s exam had a good difficulty range and progression through the test, allowing students to demonstrate their knowledge and skill level. Questions started getting on the more difficult side around Question 31 or 32, but before that there were plenty of easy and medium difficulty questions.
My personal favourite question was probably Question 29, as it was a creative combination of straight-line and declining-balance depreciation, included a graph, and required a bit of lateral thinking.
My personal least favourite question was Question 41, the last question and hence the most difficult. It wasn’t about the difficulty though, but the topic. Annuities is probably the least well-understood topic in Mathematics Standard 2 as well as Advanced (at least when using a table instead of a series), so I doubt many Standard students, or Advanced students even (this was a common question), would be able to approach this question.
