I have completed my worked solutions to the 2024 HSC Mathematics Advanced exam.
Thoughts on this year’s exam (link to the solutions is at the bottom of the post):
I thought this year’s test was mostly pretty approachable for Advanced students, although there were a couple of curve-ball questions I’m guessing threw most students off.
The multiple choice was quite approachable, except for Question 10 (as usual). Section II had the few curve-ball questions, specifically Questions 26, 27(b), 30, and 31(b).
My personal favourite question was Question 30, as I thought it was a pretty clever question that made you think outside the box a bit.
My personal least favouring question was Question 31(b), as it felt a bit of an extension on Mathematics Advanced concepts and techniques. I am not sure if students would know that they can treat area as a constant in this instance (or even know whether this needs to be considered). Getting to the end with the inequality is also pretty challenging.
